Mandatory Gear

For your safety, ALL of the mandatory gear in the below link: 'Mandatory Gear List UTA22', must be carried by each runner at ALL times whilst in the event. The weather in the Blue Mountains can change quickly from extremely hot to very cold and wet and even to below zero and snowing. Whilst the course is 'only' 21.6km, it does descend into the remote Kedumba and Jamison Valleys where vehicle and emergency access can take extended periods of time. Be prepared for extreme conditions.

Why are you made to carry mandatory gear?

We strongly recommend that all UTA22 runners get their mandatory gear checked at one of the gear check stores well before the race. Note that it is not compulsory for UTA22 runners to get their mandatory gear checked prior to the race however we do strongly recommend you do this to prevent confusion and a possible time penalty at the race for not carrying the correct mandatory gear. In 2019, over 90 UTA22 runners received a 40 minute time penalty for missing or unsuitable mandatory gear.

Between 13th January and 21st October, get your mandatory gear checked at one of the gear check stores in NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD, SA, WA or TAS

Does the gear get checked during the race?

Yes, there will be random gear checks during the event and if you are missing any item you will not be allowed to continue until the item can be replaced. You will also receive a time penalty.
