Exciting news - UTA11 is here

Just under 3 months until we see you in the Blue Mountains for Ultra-Trail Australia 2019!

We're sure your training is in full swing, so keep that momentum going and don't forget to keep building your strength and incorporating hills and stairs into your sessions so you can smash it out come May!

Below are a few quick updates below on running lists, training and training camps and our amazing partners. We also have some BIG news, adding a brand new race distance for 2019... UTA11.

EXCITING NEWS - UTA11 IS HERE



What’s better than 3 epic races during an amazing 4 days in the beautiful Blue Mountains? … 4 races!

Introducing the UTA11, the newest addition to the Ultra-Trail Australia race family. Best of all - the inaugural race will take place this year at UTA 2019!

The development of UTA11 has been a labour of love for race director Tom, who really wanted to add a race to the schedule that is challenging but achievable for trail runners of all abilities and offers a good taste of what UTA is all about. Entries will also be open to runners as young as 12 years old, providing an amazing opportunity for our younger runners to be a part of the action.

As the name might suggest, UTA11 is 11km. It will take place on Thursday afternoon (May 16), with the first starters will head out from the fabulous Fairmont Resort in Leura at1pm and the finishing back at UTA race hub at Scenic World. This challenging course will traverse the most stunning walking tracks of the Blue Mountains and some of the best parts of the other courses, including the Pool of Siloam, the bridge at Elysian Rock, Leura Cascades, Bridal Veil Falls, Amphitheatre Track, Lila Falls, Leura Forest, and - of course - the infamous Furber Steps to finish … all 951 of them!

We have a very limited capacity for UTA11 for the first year of just 600 runners, and we’ve no doubt that like our other races it’s going to be super-popular.

Entries will open at 11am (AEDT) on Tuesday, Feb 26

STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW

RUNNER LISTS

Improved your half mara time? You have until the 15th of March to provide any new start group seeding information for UTA100 & UTA50, no amendments can be made after this. You can check out your start group/seeding request on the runner lists (below) or your User Profile (where you can also make any changes/updates). 

UTA22 is self-seeding, but your start group choice will be locked in as of the 16th March! So make sure you submit any changes before this time.

Final seeding lists will be released in mid-April. These may not be the same as your requested starting group, so please be sure to double check once they're released.

TRAINING

A MESSAGE FROM OUR TRAINING PARTNERS AT SQUADRUN

3 months to go ...12 weeks... 85 days!

We bet that's made you sit upright and think 'my race is how close?!’ You heard right. ‘What shall I be doing with my next few months?’ Right now you need to continue building up strength and endurance. Increase your time on feet, get some good rhythm runs in, and also start adding stair sessions in, to condition the body and mind to them.

Practice positive self-talk in your training so that you use this on race day. Catch those 'red flag’ thoughts and learn to manage them, and employ more positive dialogue or focuses. Consider your compulsory gear and start carrying it (if you haven't been already) for your longer runs. Likewise with poles, if you plan on using them on race day start working with them in training too. There are still opportunities to test fuelling and hydration in your longer runs and get that dialed in so that you're comfortable with what you're doing on race day. Make the most of the next couple of months to build confidence and experience.

UTA TRAINING CAMPS

Our training partners over at SQUADRUN are running UTA training camps to have you in top shape for Ultra-Trail Australia. Their next camp is on from 5-7 April and is going to be awesome! With trail running legend Lucy Bartholomew confirmed to attend. There are only 16 places left for the next camp, so get your booking in ASAP to avoid missing out.

The UTA camps sell out for good reason! They're a great opportunity to get out on the course, get trail and ultra tips from the pro's, get offerings from sponsors, and to make new friends
